Happy New Year
It’s a New Year yall, and you know what that means?? New Year, New ME! Except, I’m for real this time. Idk about you, sis (or bro), but I’m going after EVERYTHING I want this year in 2023. If you want to achieve the same thing, then keep reading. I’m going to give you tips on staying motivated and achieving your goals in the New Year.
Before we dive into it, I have to let you know where this spark of motivation came from. I came across a motivational audio by Steve Harvey on TikTok discussing his “300 list challenge.” If you want to look at the video, then click here. In the audio, Steve Harvey challenges you to make a list of 300 things you would like for God to do for you in the year. At the time, I felt so motivated and knew that I wanted God to show out for me in the new year, so I decided to partake in the challenge. You’re probably thinking, “300 things? That’s a lot. I can’t even think of that many.” Like you, I honestly thought the same thing initially. I sat there for about an hour writing my list, and I got stuck at like number 50. And I sat…and sat…and sat some more thinking. I finally got the idea to write out a number of things I wanted based on categories such as self-worth, finances, career, marriage, family, friendships, blogging, etc. Before I knew it, I had my list of 300 things after almost 3 hours.
Habakkuk 2:2 reads, “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.”
So I’m going to pray on the things I wrote, work hard, and expect God to do some major things for my life in 2023. If you struggle with your resolutions each year and tend to fall off as the year progresses, like I do, here’s a few things that I’m going to recommend you do to stay motivated throughout the year (preaching to myself here, too).
1. Get Organized
Get you a planner and actually WRITE in it! Honestly, I recommend utilizing both a paper planner and a digital planner. For me, I don’t always carry my physical planner. I’m quick to whip out my phone and set a reminder in my calendar for events or things I need to get done. What I can tell you though is that my physical planner has EVERYTHING in it. I mean, I would put my bathroom breaks in there if I could (ha!). If you’re indecisive like me, finding the perfect planner can be a task, honey. I need it to be broken down monthly, weekly, and I need notes..okay?! The thing I appreciate most about planners are the versatility of them. You can have a specific budget planner, life planner, or even a content creation planner. TJ Maxx typically offers super cute planners that are very affordable. I’ve gotten several from there over the years, and I love how they have the cute little motivational stickers that you can use throughout. Also, Amazon ALWAYS comes in clutch with the planners. Check out a few of my favorites. Another option would be an Erin Condren Planner. Just know that this brand is on the pricier side (but SO worth it!!).
2. Regularly Re-evaluate Your Goals
The goals you set at the beginning of the year might not be the same goals you have in the middle of the year. People change, and that’s okay. I think it’s necessary to review your goals at least quarterly. If you need to review them more frequently than that, then it’s totally fine. Once you have achieved a few things off your resolution list, mark it off and create new ones. Now if a goal seems too far-fetched for you at that present time, attempt to re-adjust that goal to make it more attainable. Being realistic and making goals manageable are key.
3. Find an Accountability Partner
Another super important piece of staying motivated is finding an accountability partner. Sometimes, it’s just easier to accomplish things when you have someone else acquiring the same goal. Think of them as your personal cheerleader…a person who will ensure you’re doing what you need to do all while continuing to motivate you. It’s literally the best.
4.Visualize Success
Have you heard of the phrase, “You are what you eat?” What about the phrase, “Life and death lie in the power of the tongue?” Okay, surely you’ve heard, “You become what you see?” Well, it’s true. ALL of these phrases are true. You have to SEE yourself being successful or conquering the goal you’ve set for yourself. Continue visualizing that success until you have obtained the very thing you’re dreaming about.
5. Recognize Your Accomplishments
Last, but not least, you need to recognize what you’ve already accomplished. Celebrate yourself because even knocking one goal out of the way is HUGE. When you realize that you can (and have) achieved goals, you’ll be even more motivated to reach many more. It feels AMAZING to look over the things you’ve attained.
So there you go. This blog post gave you 5 tips for staying motivated in the new year. I think we can all agree that the last two years have been quite difficult for most people. We’ve experienced COVID, lockdowns, economy shutting down, inflation, losing loved ones, battling mental illnesses, etc. So I really hope that this year brings you all of the desires of your heart. Now before I end this, I want you to repeat after me….No I’m serious, repeat after me: I CAN DO THIS. I CAN, AND I WILL HAVE AN AMAZING YEAR. I AM BLESSED IMMENSELY. I WILL ATTRACT ALL GOOD THINGS BECAUSE I DESERVE THEM. Doesn’t that feel great?? Repeat these affirmations daily. Comment and let me know ONE thing you will accomplish this year.
Until next time,
xoxo Terrica
